Wines of Tenerife: A New Chapter in Our Canary Islands Journey

At Wine Shop Lanzarote, our mission has always been to share the most exciting wines from Lanzarote. Over the years, we have proudly showcased truly unique volcanic wines, shaped by a landscape unlike any other and made by passionate producers.

We are now excited to take our offerings a step further by expanding our portfolio to include a carefully curated selection of wines from Tenerife, the largest and most diverse of the Canary Islands.

Why Tenerife?

Tenerife is a place of striking contrasts, featuring high-altitude vineyards, centuries-old vines, rich volcanic soils, and a variety of microclimates that contribute to the creation of exceptionally expressive wines.

Similar to Lanzarote, Tenerife is home to native grape varieties that are rarely found elsewhere. These include Listán Blanco, Listán Negro, Negramoll, Albillo Criollo, and Verdello. A new generation of winemakers is emerging, combining respect for the land with modern winemaking techniques.

The resulting wines pair beautifully with Lanzarote wines, offering a complementary tasting experience that showcases the best of the Canary Islands.

Meet the Wineries

We are excited to introduce five exceptional producers who are at the forefront of Tenerife’s vibrant wine scene:

Bodega Arautava: a third-generation family winery in Tenerife, crafting minimal-intervention wines from volcanic soils using the traditional cordón trenzado method. Native grapes like Listán Negro and Albillo Criollo thrive in their high-altitude vineyards, expressing the island’s unique character.

Tierra Fundida: Vinos en Tandem is the passion project of Gabi and Loreto, who produce small-batch, minimal-intervention wines in northern Tenerife. Based at Finca Morales in La Laguna, their winery is also their home, reflecting a natural, hands-on approach.

LoHer:  a boutique winery located in La Victoria de Acentejo, within the DO Tacoronte-Acentejo. Established in 2013, it was founded by Lorenzo Hernández and is now led by his daughter, Fátima Hernández. The winery focuses on minimal-intervention winemaking to produce wines that reflect the unique volcanic terroir of the region.

Hermanos Mesa: a third-generation family winery in Tenerife’s Valle de Güímar, rooted in a tradition that began over 70 years ago. Now led by the Mesa siblings, the winery focuses on single-vineyard wines and reviving native grape varieties like Marmajuelo and Albillo Criollo. Each bottle blends heritage, innovation, and a deep sense of place.

Ruku Ruku: Jessica Martín and Tomás Mesa have launched a small-batch wine project that blends the winemaking and culinary traditions of Tenerife. Committed to sustainability and farm-to-table principles, their work creates a meaningful connection between the vineyard, the kitchen, and the community.

Each winery contributes a unique perspective while staying true to sustainability, authenticity, and volcanic terroir.

A Natural Evolution

Expanding from Lanzarote wines to include Tenerife wines felt like a natural progression. Both islands share volcanic landscapes, ocean winds, and passionate winemakers, yet Tenerife adds layers of complexity and aromatic finesse due to its mountainous terrain.

While Lanzarote wines are celebrated for their freshness, salinity, and tension, Tenerife wines introduce new flavours, styles, and stories from the Canary Islands. Together, they offer a more complete picture of Canary Island winemaking, and we invite you to explore the difference.
