Volcanic Wines of The World

Ollie, Anita & Dan have just returned from the first ever Volcanic Wines of the World trade and consumer fair in the UK!  It was held at The Liberty Club, 1 Whitehall Place, London on the 2nd October.

It was a stunning venue, and pleasingly the event matched the surroundings!  The 3 of us spent the whole 10 hours talking about the wines from Lanzarote and Tenerife, to wine professionals, including Masters of Wine, sommeliers and journalists from the trade.  In the evening it was the consumer show, which was a ticketed event open to all.  Other volcanic producers came from Etna (Italy), Santorini (Greece), Madeira and Mosel, a very small volcanic region in Germany.  Meanwhile, attendees came from as far away as the US!

Lanzarote Wines in UK

We took a range of wines, some of which are not even for sale on our website (yet!).  We had the most recognisable wines from Lanzarote, along with some of the newest producers.   With some single parcel wines, natural wines, vermouth & even Tenerife wine we had a little of everything, which we felt represented both the tradition and a current reflection of wine on the Island.  We were delighted to see (but not surprised) that the Islands wines went down a storm.  There was plenty of curiosity about our viticulture and varieties, so it has given us plenty of encouragement!  The volcanic wine movement is in its infancy but is attracting a huge amount of attention, with many arguing that wines from volcanic soils deserve their own section on a wine list!

A side from the tasting, Ollie ran two masterclasses, which focused on the unique viticulture and tradition of winemaking on the Islands.  The presentations were based on our virtual tour: "A Journey Through Lanzarote Wine."

For those interested, Volcanic Wines of the World are planning virtual events throughout the year.  We will of course announce these on our social media channels, but you can also follow @volcanicwinesoftheworld directly on Instagram.

Should anyone be interested in the wines we presented you can download our brochure here.  If you own a restaurant or wine store and are interested to collaborate, please do contact us to discuss

All the best
