El Grifo
Winemaker – Jorge Rodriguez
El Grifo was founded in 1775, making it the oldest winery in the Canary Islands and one of the 10 oldest in the whole of Spain. El Grifo has been owned by the same family for 5 generation and over the years it has been the major innovator on Lanzarote. It regularly brought over modern-day equipment from the continent and in the early 1980’s it was the first to bring in stainless-steel vats, which has gone on to revolutionise modern day winemaking. Always pushing the boundaries, with the 2019 vintage they began to use only cultivated yeasts from their own vineyard, bringing an extra authentic touch to their wines.
Colour
A bright and clean straw yellow.
Aroma
A combination of fresh fruit notes, ranging from pineapple, through to quince and pear.
Mouth
Pleasant, fresh and smooth, with a refreshing acidity level balanced by its sweetness, making for a fuller and slightly fruitier wine.
Food Pairing
A must with “papas arrugadas” (wrinkly potatos) and red and green mojo sauces. A perfect and delicious introduction to learning some of Lanzarote’s cuisine.
