The Story of Sürest: A Journey of Research and Development


In 2016, Bernardo's bravely embarked on an adventure into the world of distillation. This journey aimed to create a unique spirit that would embody the essence of Lanzarote.
The initial years focused on research and development, with a commitment to crafting a gin that not only distinguished itself by taste but also captured the spirit of Lanzarote Island.
The arrival of the first copper still at the end of 2021 marked a significant milestone. It represented the beginning of a new chapter, bringing opportunities for experimentation. The result was a spirit of superior quality, worthy of the tradition of artisanal distillation.

The Launch of Sürest 

In 2022 Bernardo’s officially launched two exceptional spirits under the Sürest brand: Sürest London Dry Gin and Sürest Cactus Gin, making them pioneers in the creation of distilled gin in Lanzarote. What sets this gin apart is its deep connection to the island. As Lanzarote is known for its exceptional wines, grape spirit has been used instead of traditional grains, giving this spirit unparalleled finesse. This choice allows for a smoother gin that embodies the flavours of Lanzarote's volcanic soil and unique climate. Additionally, the selection of botanicals plays a crucial role in Sürest's distinctive character. Handpicked citrus fruits and native fruits from the island contribute freshness and complexity to its flavour profile.

Bernardo’s commitment to quality and innovation led it to enter the prestigious World Gin Awards in London, a renowned international competition. In 2024, the gins were awarded in their respective categories: Sürest London Dry Gin received the bronze in the London Dry Gin category, and Sürest Cactus Gin also earned bronze in the Flavoured Gin category. These awards reflect Bernardo’s tireless effort to create exceptional products.
