Rosemary George MW Explores the Wines of Lanzarote

Last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming Master of Wine Rosemary George to Lanzarote. Her inspiring visit showcased everything that makes the island’s wines unique.

Rosemary’s journey began in the northern part of the island with Dan as part of our North Experience. During this time, she visited Bodega Olivina, where she gained insight into the diversity and character shaped by Lanzarote’s extraordinary volcanic landscape.

Continuing her exploration with Ale, Rosemary visited two of the island’s most iconic wineries. At Bodega El Grifo, the oldest winery in the Canary Islands, she experienced centuries of winemaking tradition. She also discovered Bodega Erupción, a modern, dynamic project that expresses the island’s terroir through bold, elegant wines.

Throughout her visit, she was particularly impressed by Lanzarote’s signature grape, Malvasía Volcánica. She noted its freshness, aromatic intensity, and distinctive volcanic character, qualities that define many of the island’s most celebrated wines.

Experiences like this remind us of how special Lanzarote’s wines truly are. Grown in extreme conditions and shaped by wind, ash, and sun, these wines stand out for their minerality, elegance, and unmistakable sense of place.

Rosemary also shared her impressions in her blog after the visit, further highlighting the growing recognition of Lanzarote on the global wine stage.

If you’d like to discover these wines for yourself, you can explore our selection in our shop.
