Esencia Yaiza: Story of the Lanzarote Blue Wine Bottle

I believe many are familiar with the iconic Lanzarote blue wine bottle from Vega de Yuco, but few may know the fascinating story behind it. This distinctive bottle, with its vibrant hue and elegant design, not only stands out on store shelves but also has become a key part of the winery's identity and is recognised beyond the archipelago as an iconic wine from Lanzarote, a status supported by the quality of the wine itself.

The Birth of the Esencia Yaiza Wine Brand

In 2005, Vega de Yuco achieved a significant milestone with the launch of its renowned wine, Esencia Yaiza. The journey of the first bottles began in a factory in Ormelle, near Venice, where the craftsmanship of Murano glassworks and their beautiful blue crystals served as the inspiration. In the early stages, the team faced the challenge of adapting the bottles to the existing bottling and labelling systems. “We had to modify the arms of the labelling machine to accommodate the bottles,” remarked Rafael J. Espino Curbelo, the owner and manager of the winery. This innovative solution paved the way for progress. Eventually, production was successfully relocated to a Spanish factory, where these unique and decorative bottles continue to be crafted today.

The Evolution of the Wine Label

The label has experienced several changes in its image and visual identity over the years. The original design, crafted by Rafael himself, captured the essence of the winery’s vision at that time. However, to better align with the winery’s evolving corporate image and contemporary branding strategies, this design was thoughtfully updated a few years ago. This recent redesign not only reflects the winery's commitment to quality and innovation but also connects with its audience in a more resonant way, enhancing the overall appeal and recognition of the brand in a competitive market.

Capturing the Essence of Lanzarote’s Heritage

The name of the wine, Esencia Yaiza, embodies the winery's dedication to honouring women and toponyms of significant places in Lanzarote. In this context, Yaiza is celebrated alongside other legendary personalities and iconic Canarian princesses such as Ico, Gara, and Famara. This wine not only pays tribute to these celebrated names but also seeks to capture the essence of Lanzarote's enchanting landscapes and vibrant traditions, making every sip a reflection of the island's heritage and the stories of its past.
